| Local News House session on gambling canceledSPRINGFIELD - Legislative feuding claimed another casualty Friday as House Speaker Michael Madigan canceled a session planned for next week on gambling expansion and blamed other leaders and the governor for more delays. New exemptions here to help some homeowners The deadline for filing complaints about assessments passed Friday, but DeKalb County property owners have until at least the end of December to apply for a number of exemptions that could lower a property's equalized assessed value. Exemptions available to DeKalb County taxpayers Contact the DeKalb County Supervisor of Assessments Office at 110 E. Sycamore St. in Sycamore or call them at 815-895-7120 for more information. | Opinions Barbs & Bouquets for Dec 15, 2007 Primary nonsenseBouquet - Phyllis Kelley, a DeKalb County historian, and the staff at the Joiner History Room at the Sycamore Public Library completed a pictorial history about Sycamore and had it published by Arcadia Publishing. Chapters of the book, which is called “Syca-more,” focus on the county courthouse, State and Main streets, Sunday worship and leading ladies and gentlemen of the city. The book contains images from the bygone days of our county seat, as well as pictures of more recent events, like the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival. It's nice to see one of our local burgs celebrated and shared, and even nicer that the Joiner History Room staff took time to compile such a worthwhile book.
