Barbs & Bouquets for Dec 22, 2007
Bouquet - DeKalb County Clerk Sharon Holmes deserves recognition for 30 years of service to the county. Hired in 1977 to run elections, she is now in her 18th year as county clerk. The county clerk's office has five main functions: to serve as clerk of the county board and keeper of county records; to serve as chief election officer for the county; to keep vital records including birth, death and marriage records; to handle computation of property taxes and redemption of delinquent taxes; and to maintain all the land records for the county. Holmes and her staff of 14 employees are responsible for documents important to all county residents, and they do their job efficiently and with grace. Anyone who has dedicated three decades of her life to public service deserves our thanks.
