Barbs and Bouquets for the week of March 8
Bouquet - The Sycamore School District proved Tuesday that its administrators take threats of violence seriously. After a threatening note targeted at Sycamore High School was discovered in a local grocery store Sunday, Schools Superintendent Wayne Riesen contacted media outlets to get the word out to parents. The note did not make a specific threat, he said, but it did specify Tuesday's date, the first day of classes after a three-day weekend. Officers from the Sycamore Police Department acted fast and were stationed on campus throughout the week. DeKalb Schools Superintendent Paul Beilfuss also lent a hand by sending additional security from his district for support. Entrances to SHS were limited, students' personal belongings were searched and all doors were locked throughout the day Tuesday. The swift, organized reaction of the district and community support are commendable.
