Eric Hicks of the DeKalb Fire Department uses an ax to cut a hole in the roof of a building at 511 S. Fourth St. after a suspected grease fire broke out around 6:40 p.m. Thursday. DeKalb Fire Chief Lanny Russell said 20 firefighters from DeKalb and Sycamore departments responded to the fire, which spread from the second-floor kitchen through the roof of the building.
