Barbs and Bouquets for the week of March 1
Bouquet - The DeKalb County Board has received and will continue to receive flak for approving an intergovernmental agreement with the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. But the simple fact is that it is better to be safe than sorry. If the federal government declares the tribe's land near Shabbona is not a reservation, the agreement is void. But if the government declares the land is a reservation, the county is legally and financially covered. Without the agreement, the Potawatomi would have had no financial or legal obligations to the community if the land were to be declared a reservation. Thanks to the county board for watching its constituents' backs.
