Bouquet - Sgt. Brett Bouma was an asset to his employer, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office. He joined the department and was assigned to the Corrections Division in December 1993, then was transferred to the Patrol Division in March 1998. In addition to fulfilling his responsibilities as deputy sheriff and then as sergeant, Brett was a field-training officer and was instrumental in the development of the field-training manual for the sheriff's office. He served and trained for duties with the Regional Special Response Team, a branch of the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System and Terrorism Task Force, for more than three years. He was most recently assigned as sergeant of Kishwaukee College Campus Security. Sgt. Bouma died Sunday of a pulmonary embolism following a recent surgery, leaving behind a wife and three children, as well as many other loved ones. Thank you, Sgt. Bouma, for your dedication to the county and the safety of its residents.
